Description
17 inch wide, 7 pound Ganoderma applanatum Artist's Conk Medicinal Mushroom - MontanaThis giant wild Ganoderma conk
was found growing on the roots of a large, overturned black cottonwood tree
in the Rocky Mountains of northwest Montana.
This shelf mushroom is air-dried,
and weighs over 7 pounds.
Part of that weight is the tree roots it is attached to. The mushroom itself measures 17 inches wide, 9 inches tall, and 11 inches thick, measured at the base. These mushrooms make great canvas medium for oil or acrylic paint, as well as wood burning, and photographic transfer processes. The colors and sheen of the layered top and sides of the mushroom can be brought out with varnish, lacquer, wax, or linseed oil. It would also work well as a taxidermy mount.
This conk can also be used make tea or added to various recipes.
The mushroom makes a mellow, pleasant tasting tea.
These mushrooms are also referred to by the common names of artist's bracket, artist's fungus, bear bread, kofuki-saru-no-koshikake, lingzhi, ping gai zing zhi, and shu she lingzhi. Past scientific synonyms include Boletus applanatus, Elfvingia applanata, Fomes applanatus, Fomes vegetus, Ganoderme aplani, Ganoderma lipsiense, Polyporus applanatus, and Polyporus vegetus.
